Buy Packing Supplies: You’ll need sturdy boxes (uniformly sized if possible), packing tape, bubble wrap and other padding, unprinted newspaper, and permanent markers. You can get these at moving companies, truck rental companies, or most office supply stores. -
The fun part, packing. The sooner you start the sooner it’s over. Pack your least necessary items first and work your way from there. -
One you have inventoried all the items that will be joining you on your move. It would be a good idea to estimate its value and determine whether or not you should opt for movers insurance. In most cases, moving insurance is highly recommended. -
Make sure to notify all contacts, both personal and non-personal, of you new address. Don’t forget to notify the utilities, DMV, Bank, Doctor, etc. -
Get Help: Whether you’re hiring movers or not, you’ll want someone around to help. You might need help watching the kids, packing last minute items or loading the truck if you’ve rented one. This could be your husband or some friends who owe you big; just don’t try to do it alone.
